Frequently Asked Questions
What does Heyd Strategy specialize in?
Heyd Strategy is an independent, senior-led advisory focused on three areas: Strategy, Organization and Decision Advantage. We help leadership teams choose direction, configure the company around that direction, and make commitments when the evidence is incomplete.
Who are your typical clients?
We work primarily with CEOs, boards, owners and investors in multinational, family-owned and investor-backed companies. Our experience is concentrated in aerospace and defence, automotive and mobility, and industrial businesses.
What kinds of situations lead clients to call you?
Clients usually call us at a turning point: when direction must be set or renewed, when the organization no longer fits the strategy, or when a consequential commitment cannot wait for certainty. The common denominator is a decision whose quality matters more than the size of the consulting team.
How do Strategy, Organization and Decision Advantage relate?
Strategy determines where to compete, how to win and what to stop. Organization defines the capabilities, decision rights and interfaces needed to make that strategy work. Decision Advantage tests major commitments against uncertainty and defines what to commit to now, what to keep open and what signals should trigger a change of course.
What is Decision Advantage?
Decision Advantage is our service proposition for strategy under uncertainty. It combines recognised methods such as scenario planning, strategy stress testing, investment-case testing, decision architecture and early-warning systems. The objective is not to predict the future, but to make a consequential decision more robust across several plausible futures.
How is Heyd Strategy different from a larger consulting firm?
The firm is built around direct senior judgement rather than a leverage model. Every engagement is led by Dr Frank Heyd, who remains involved from the initial framing through the decision and its translation into action. A small team may support the work, but the senior judgement is never delegated.
Who actually leads and delivers the work?
Dr Frank Heyd leads every engagement personally. This means there is no handover between the person who frames the question, works with the leadership team and develops the answer. Specialist support is added where it strengthens the work, without replacing senior accountability.
How do you ensure the work leads to action?
We work through the choices with the leaders accountable for the outcome. Assumptions and trade-offs are made explicit before a conclusion is reached. The decision is then translated into priorities, owners, first moves and, where relevant, indicators that show when the course should change.
Do you provide support during implementation or transition?
Yes, where continued senior judgement adds value. Strategy work can extend into execution roadmaps and decision reviews. Organization work can continue through the critical decisions of a transition. The role is focused advisory and orchestration, not a large external implementation office.
Which sectors do you work in?
Our experience is concentrated in aerospace and defence, automotive and mobility, and industrial businesses under investor or family ownership. We also work selectively in adjacent sectors where the decision problem and required judgement fit our experience.
What engagement models do you offer?
Clients engage us through a defined advisory mandate, standing advisory or a prepared workshop. A mandate resolves one consequential question. Standing advisory provides continuity across a sequence of decisions. Workshops suit focused questions that can be resolved in a concentrated format.
Can you support one part of a larger project?
Yes, when the question can be bounded without losing the decision context. Examples include testing strategic options, resolving a pivotal organization-design question or stress-testing a major commitment. If the issue requires broader diagnosis or stakeholder work, we will say so before defining the scope.
How do you price advisory work?
Fees reflect the scope, complexity, senior attention and consequence of the decision. Once the question and required work are clear, we provide a transparent proposal, usually as a defined project fee or advisory arrangement. Workshops are priced around preparation, design, facilitation and follow-through.
What workshops and applied programmes do you offer?
Workshops include Annual Strategy Days, a Growth Portfolio Workshop and an Organization Design Lab. Scenario formats include the Executive Scenario Lab, Strategic Foresight and Scenario Planning, and an Applied Scenario Programme. Each is built around a live question rather than a generic classroom case.
How do we get started?
Contact us through the website or at contact@heydstrategy.com. A short initial conversation clarifies the decision, the people accountable for it and the urgency. We then recommend whether an advisory mandate, standing advisory or workshop is the right format.
